What is CWAF?
Caerphilly West Allotment Federation is a membership organisation open to all Allotment Associations in the Caerphilly West area. Both statutory and private sites are eligible for membership. We are a democratically structured group, and our Officers and Management Committee are nominated from member sites and elected at our Annual General Meeting.
Who can join?
Any site in the Caerphilly West area can join us. We are a Federation of Allotment Associations, so the site is the CWAF member, not any individual plot holder or committee member. Each affiliated site nominates two of its members to represent it at CWAF meetings.
Why Join?
By pooling our knowledge and experience we can work together to protect and enhance allotment sites in our area, supporting one another and promoting best practice. In difficult times, CWAF can be a voice for all its member groups.
CWAF launched
Caerphilly West Allotment Federation was launched at a meeting at Penallta Rugby Club on Wednesday October the 15th 2025. We are currently in the process of negotiating an agreement with Caerphilly County Borough Council which will enable us to receive funding from Welsh Government with which to support our members. If we haven't already been in touch with your site, please contact the Secretary to learn more.
Flooding on allotments
We are gathering information on flooding on allotment sites, with a view to putting together a report to share with CCBC and other agencies. If your site has experienced flooding since 2020, please get in touch to let us know.
Tackling climate change
The Van Ward site in Caerphilly has been awarded £15,000 from the Egin project. Among other things, the grant will be used to upgrade the site's solar system and go green by having a share culture of battery operated gardening tools. The project provides Peer Mentor support for community groups to help them take their first steps towards taking action on climate change and living more sustainably.
